Why Does Kindle for PC Block Text Copying?
Kindle for PC applies the same copy restrictions as every other Kindle platform: limited highlights, no bulk text export.
Kindle for PC limits text copying to publisher-set highlight caps, typically around 10% of a book. There is no way to export book text from the desktop app. The legacy Kindle for PC app is no longer supported as of June 30, 2026; Amazon's current desktop app is called the Kindle app. Two workarounds exist: use Kindle Cloud Reader (read.amazon.com) in Chrome or Firefox with the TextMuncher extension for automated capture, or take screenshots of the desktop app and upload them to textmuncher.com for OCR.
10% Highlight Cap
Kindle caps how much you can highlight per book. Once you hit the limit, the highlight option disappears entirely for that title.
No Text Export from the App
Kindle for PC has no feature to export book content as text. Your only native option is the limited notes and highlights export.
Extension Automation Doesn't Work in Desktop Apps
Browser extensions run inside the browser, not inside desktop applications. You need a different approach for the Kindle for PC app.

Why doesn't the TextMuncher extension work in Kindle for PC?
TextMuncher is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. It only runs inside the browser, not in desktop applications like Kindle for PC. The workaround is using Cloud Reader in Chrome or Firefox, or manually screenshotting the desktop app and uploading to textmuncher.com.
Is my Kindle library the same in Cloud Reader?
Not always. Amazon says not all titles are available in Kindle for Web (read.amazon.com), so a book you can read in Kindle for PC may not open there. Check that it opens in Cloud Reader before you start.
How do I take screenshots of Kindle for PC efficiently?
