1. What TextMuncher Does
TextMuncher is a web-based text extraction tool that converts screenshots and eBook files (EPUB) into editable text. By default, Speed mode processes screenshot OCR locally on your device. Quality mode is an optional feature for Pro subscribers who switch it on: pages flagged as hard to read, along with their draft transcriptions, are sent to Anthropic (Claude) for a second pass, and if Anthropic can't process a page, Google Cloud reads it instead. EPUB files are parsed locally in the browser. See our Privacy Policy for the complete data flow.
TextMuncher is designed for personal use only: academic research, study notes, accessibility needs, and organizing content you legally own or have access to.
We may update features, pricing, or availability over time. Continued use after changes means you accept the updates.
2. Your Responsibilities
What You Can Do
- Extract text from content you own or have legal access to
- Use extracted text for personal research, study, or accessibility needs
- Process up to 30 automated pages on the free tier, or unlimited with a paid subscription
What You Can't Do
- Redistribute, resell, or commercially exploit extracted text
- Violate copyright laws or third-party platform terms of service
- Create multiple accounts to bypass usage limits
- Use TextMuncher for bulk commercial extraction or database creation
Copyright Compliance
You are solely responsible for ensuring your use complies with copyright laws and platform terms. We don't provide legal advice. Extracting copyrighted content may require permission beyond personal use rights.
Account Security
- You're responsible for keeping your login secure
- You're liable for all activity under your account
- Don't share or resell your account access
- You must be at least 13 years old to use TextMuncher
3. Subscriptions & Payments
Plans
- Free: 30 pages of automated extraction
- Pro: Unlimited personal use, billed monthly or annually at the price shown on our pricing page and confirmed at checkout
Billing
- Payments are processed securely through Stripe
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel
- Prices don't include taxes (your responsibility)
Refunds
- Monthly: No refunds for partial periods
- Annual: Refunds only within 30 days of purchase
- No refunds if your account is terminated for violating these Terms
Failed Payments
You have 7 days to update your payment method if a charge fails. After that, your account may be suspended.
4. Disclaimers & Liability
Service "As Is"
TextMuncher is provided "as is" with no warranties. We don't guarantee accuracy, uptime, or that OCR results will be error-free. Your use is at your own risk.
Your Content, Your Responsibility
- You retain all ownership of your files and extracted text
- We claim no rights to your content
- In Speed mode, we do not see, store, or access your page images or extracted text. Optional Pro Quality mode sends flagged page images and draft transcriptions to Anthropic (Claude) for a second pass, with Google Cloud as the fallback if Anthropic can't process a page; see our Privacy Policy for details.
- You're solely responsible for copyright compliance and legal consequences of your content use
Limitation of Liability
We're not liable for indirect damages, lost data, copyright disputes, or issues with third-party platforms. Our maximum liability is the greater of:
- $100 USD, or
- What you paid us in the last 12 months
5. Account Termination
You can cancel anytime. No refunds for partial billing periods (except annual subscriptions within 30 days).
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you violate these Terms, misuse the service, or engage in illegal activity. Accounts terminated for violations receive no refunds.
6. General Terms
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. Significant changes will be posted on the platform or emailed to you. Continued use means you accept the updates.
Disputes
If you have an issue, contact us at hello@textmuncher.com first. We'll work with you to resolve it. If we can't reach a resolution, disputes will be handled individually (no class actions) under applicable law.
