Why Should eBook Extraction Stay Private?

Your reading material may include paid books, coursework, client research, or personal notes.

For privileged or sensitive material, use Speed mode (the default): OCR runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Quality mode — an optional Pro feature — sends hard-to-read pages to the cloud, so leave it off for confidential work.

Converters Want Uploads

Many OCR and file-conversion tools ask you to send them your ebook or screenshots.

Research Can Be Sensitive

Academic, legal, medical, or client material should not go through random online tools.

Cloud Terms Are Unclear

Some services keep files temporarily or use vague retention language.

Speed Mode: Local OCR

Runs in Browser

Speed mode processes captured pages locally using browser-based OCR. Optional Pro Quality mode sends hard-to-read pages for a cloud second pass.

Keeps Text Private

Speed mode keeps page images and extracted text on your device. Quality mode is optional for Pro subscribers and sends only hard-to-read pages for a cloud second pass.

Still Copy Ready

Privacy does not mean manual work. You get editable text for notes, documents, and AI tools.

How It Works

Three steps. No technical knowledge required.

Three panels: the TextMuncher extension detects the open Kindle page, captures pages one after another, then the web app shows the extracted text ready to copy.
The extension detects the reader, captures the pages, and the web app returns the text.

1. Open Your Reader

Load the ebook pages in a supported browser reader.

2. Capture Locally

TextMuncher turns pages; Speed mode OCRs screenshots in your browser, while optional Pro Quality mode uses a cloud second pass.

3. Use the Text

Copy extracted passages only into tools you trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TextMuncher upload my book?

By default, no. In Speed mode — the default for everyone — OCR runs entirely in your browser. The one exception is optional Pro Quality mode for Pro subscribers who switch it on: hard-to-read pages are sent for a cloud second pass.

Is local OCR slower than cloud OCR?

It can be a bit slower on old machines, but it avoids upload risk and works well for chapter-scale extraction.

What if I paste the text into an AI tool?

That is your choice after extraction. Review the AI tool privacy policy before pasting sensitive or copyrighted material.

Does private extraction work with locked Kindle books?

TextMuncher does not unlock files. It captures visible pages from the reader and OCRs what you can already see.
